Shopping on Instagram is the new Instagram tool that enables brands and stores to tag their products on their posts. You can tag up to five products per image or twenty products per carousel. This type of publication gives full access to the products details its price. It also shows a link to the website where users can buy the product.

Turn on Instagram Shopping in the Instagram App

To enable the ability to feature products from the Instagram App:

  1. Go to your profile and tap settings
  2. Tap Business
  3. Tap Shopping. Note: The option to tap Shopping is only available to accounts that have been approved for Instagram Shopping.
  4. Tap Continue
  5. Select a product catalog to connect to your professional account.
  6. Tap Done.

If you don’t see Shopping, your account is probably still under review or it hasn’t been approved for Instagram Shopping. The review process can take up to a few days, but sometimes we may need to review the account in more detail, which can take longer.

Add Product Tags in Instagram Posts

After you’ve been approved and competed set-up in Shopping in Settings, you can start tagging products in your posts and stories. When you share a post with product tags on Instagram, you can also share the same post on Facebook with product tags. You can do this by toggling Facebook before posting.

When someone taps a product tag on your post or a product sticker in your story, they’ll be taken to a product description page where they will see:

  • An image of the product from your post
  • A description of the product
  • How much the product costs
  • A link that takes them directly to your website, where they can purchase the product

To tag products in your posts:

  1. Select a photo or video and add a caption, effects and filters.
  2. Tap the products in the photo that you want to tag. For videos, a tray will appear where you can select up to five products you want to tag.
  3. Enter the names of the products you want to tag, then select them as they appear in the search box.
  4. Tap Done.
  5. Tap Share.

To preview posts or save a draft of a post, click Preview Tagged Products or Save Draft. You can tag products in both new and existing posts from your Instagram professional account. You can tag up to 5 products per single-image post and video posts, or 20 products per multi-image post.
